Testing
This document originally served as a test-bed for developmental work.
I've been doing more experimenting before the move from the GPFN. The
testing is now elsewhere.
Pertinent web sites
- Mozart no longer continues to do what he
did best.
- A Spring Snow Crabapple grows on Baeder Road.
- Easter Sunday 2006 seemed like a good
opportunity to finish cleaning the gutters. However, the job was not
completed because ....
- Rebecca is looking ....
- The Great Plains Free-Net Inc, GPFN (http://www.gpfn.sk.ca/) was
turned off on Friday 03 December 2005, after a life of about ten years
of continuous operation. As a founder of this charitable non-profit
corporation, I was involved in its creation and I established the web
site, performed a decent bit of the Unix systems work, and participated
in daily systems administration.
- Regina Amateur Radio
Association (RARA): The group significantly involved with the
development of my amateur radio activities.
- Warminster Amateur Radio Club
(WARC): A neat amateur radio group in greater Philadelphia.
- Villanova University, Computing Sciences
Department: The following courses had their web sites available on
the GPFN until its demise. They are now archived.
- CSC 8550, Spring 2002: Concepts of Data Communications class notes.
- CSC 8550, Spring 2001: Concepts of Data Communications class notes.
- CSC 7100, Fall 2000: Computer Systems class notes.
- CSC 8560, Spring 2000: Computer Networks class notes.
- CSC 8550, Fall 1999: Concepts of Data Communications class notes.
- CSC 8550, Spring 1999: Concepts of Data Communications class notes.
- CSC 8560, Fall 1998: Computer Networks class notes.
- CSC 8560, Spring 1998: Computer Networks class notes.
- CSC 8550, Fall 1997: Concepts of Data Communications class notes.
- I urge the creation of correct, simple, effective web pages that load quickly and convey information.
- http://validator.w3.org/: Good web pages
start with correct HTML syntax. Here is a site that validates HTML,
XHTML, and CSS syntax.
- http://www.cast.org/bobby/: (Formerly)
the Center for Advanced Special Technology's "bobby" tests and
offers suggestions on how to write web documents that are easier for
every one to read.
- The Yuri Rubinsky Insight Foundation promoted accessible web technologies.
- http://world.std.com/~adamg/dehanced.html: Dehanced for Lynx, encourages the creation of
pages compatible with text-based browsers, such as Lynx. (This is a slow
link, but it is there.)
- http://www.catb.org/~esr/html-hell.html: The HTML hell page tells you about bad HTML design,
content, and style.
- http://www.useit.com/alertbox/9612.html: A Jakob Nielsen essay about why using frames for web page
layout is (most of the time) a poor idea, 1996.
- http://www.useit.com/alertbox/9605a.html: Jakob Nielsen's original top ten mistakes in web design, 1996.
- http://www.useit.com/alertbox/9605.html: Jakob Nielsen's top ten mistakes in web design, 2007.
- http://www.hotdesign.com/seybold/: A series of cartoons that explain why using tables for web page
layout is stupid.
- http://www.webpagesthatsuck.com/:
Teaches good web design by demonstrating bad design.
